Whew!
In the mean time, we've got a busy 29 days of school left! Be sure to check back frequently to make sure you're up-to-date with what's happening at Gilbert!
First up, we have a trip to LaFayette High School on Friday, April 26th. We will be attending the Walker County Special Olympics. Our goal is to provide support and encouragement for all participants. We are making signs and learning cheers/songs to do in the stand to support our Gilbert Gators. We’ll take sack lunches and enjoy a picnic on the grounds of LHS before returning to Gilbert around noon.
Next up is our Science field trip to Ruby Falls. Lookout Mountain is widely known for its many unusual geological features. The most unique of which being Ruby Falls, a 145-foot underground waterfall located more than 1,120 feet beneath the mountain’s surface. The fascinating story of the formation of Lookout Mountain, the Ruby Falls cave and Ruby Falls itself is told by the rocks that formed each of these wonders.
We will travel to Ruby Falls on Wednesday, May 1. The cost for each student is $8. A limited number of adults may attend. The adult price is $13. Parents will have to drive on your own or you may carpool, as parents are not allowed to ride the bus. If you would like to attend, please get your money returned as soon as possible. The chaperone spots will be first come, first serve. We need all monies by Wednesday, April 24th. Younger brothers and sisters are not allowed to attend. ** Adults who show up at Ruby Falls who do not go through us, will be charged the regular admission price of $17.95 per person. Also, you may be placed in a different touring group than us, as the numbers of visitors are limited.
Lastly, we will attend the Walker County AG Day activities on May 2nd. We will spend the morning at the Walker County Agriculture Center in Rock Spring. We will complete several activities and learn more about agriculture in our community. We will have lunch at the LaFayette Recreation Department.

Whew! One down, four to go!
Great job, third graders! We've knocked out reading! Up tomorrow, Language Arts!
Thank you for helping to make our first day of testing go smoothly by being present and on time! We appreciate everyone's hard work on today's reading test.
Due to CRCT testing this week, we will not have any assigned homework. It's always a great idea to look back over your STAR binder's artifacts, newsletters, and/or study guides for tomorrow's subject.
You may have also noticed your child may have the same library books. Library time is limited this week due to testing. Each student was encouraged to get two chapter books to last the week.

AR Update & Coming soon...
AR Update for third graders!
Since beginning AR back in February, third graders have taken 3,247 quizzes and earned 1,810 points! Each week we recognize students who are reading the required chapter book with our Chapter Book Club!
If you haven't been a member of the chapter book club, what are you waiting for? I'm sure that Mrs. Massey or Mrs. Allmon can help you find a chapter book on your level. It's great practice, as next year the expectation is at least two chapter books - no more picture books!
Mrs. Massey has created a pretty cool website
to showcase our upcoming book fair. This is an awesome opportunity to
add to your book collection! The book fair will begin on Friday, May 3rd
with classes visiting to preview the offerings and making wish lists.
Students may begin to purchase books on Monday, May 6. The fair will be
open each day May 6-9 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There's a special event
to celebrate Mother's Day on May 10th. On Friday May 10, the book fair
will be open until 12:00.
For all the girls who love the Pinkalicious books by Victoria Kann, there's a new one out! It's called Emeraldalicious! In this story, Pinkalicious and her brother take a trip to the park only to find it not as clean as they remember.
Boys,
don't worry! There are plenty of books just right for you, too! I know
my third grade boys are loving the Geronimo Stilton series, Goosebumps
series, and the new series called, Stick Dog by Tom Watson. Thanks, Jay Cowan, for sharing this new series with me!
Of course, everyone loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books! The newest one, The Third Wheel, will
also be available. Have you read it yet? Love is in the air in this
book! So, check in with Greg and Rowley as they figure out what to do
for the Valentine's Dance at school!
What have you read lately?
I hope to see you at the book fair! Until then, be sure to check out the webpage for Gilbert's Book Fair. You can click here to visit the site!
